DISTRIBUTION:

The Tricolored Heron (Egretta tricolor) is natural to the Americas. Its distribution extends from the USA to Brazil.


ELEVATION:

Sea level to 2600 meters, but not so frequent above the 1500 meters.


HABITAT:

Normally seen in the proximity of fresh water, brackish water or saltwater.

BEHAVIOR:

Usually seen alone.


REPRODUCTION:

This egret is a colonial breeder. The clutch is three to four greenish blue eggs. Incubation takes from 21 to 25 days and it is done by both parents.


DESCRIPTION:

In length it reaches from 56 to 65 cm. the weight is about 350 grams


OTHER NAMES:

The Tricolored Heron in Spanish is called “Garceta Tricolor”.
