DISTRIBUTION:

The Intermediate Egret (Egretta intermedia) is natural to Africa, Asia and Oceania. In Africa it is found south of the Sahara Dessert. In Asia its distribution extends from Pakistan and India, including Sri Lanka, to China, Japan, the Philippines and the islands of Indonesia. In Oceania it is natural to New Guinea, the Bismarck Islands and Australia, some making it to New Zealand.


HABITAT:

Usually seen in the proximity of water, could be fresh water, brackish or saltwater.


REPRODUCTION:

This species is a colonial breeder.


DESCRIPTION:

In length this egret reaches from 64 to 66 cm. The weight is about 400 grams.


OTHER NAMES:

The Intermediate Egret in Spanish is called “Garceta Intermedia”.
