The Subspecies of the Emu (Dromaius novaehollandiae)

There are still two subspecies of the Emu (Dromaius novaehollandiae) in Australia. Some authors recognize the subspecies Dromaius novaehollandiae woodwardi from the north of and west of Australia.

Before people from Europe reached Australia there were three other types of emus: one of them in Tasmania, considered a species, and another in Kangaroo island, also considered a species. All three are extinct.
